Public Elementary School and Junior High School Educational System
If you would like to enroll your child in a public elementary school or junior high school, applications can be made at the School Affairs Section, Board of Education located on the fifth floor of the City Office.
Schools are designated according to your residence which is outlined in the ‘Rules on Kodaira City Public school district’.
Once the application is accepted, parents should contact the school and make an appointment to visit the school with their child/children. When visiting the school, we suggest you to discuss your child’s school life with the teaching staff.
Textbooks are supplied by the national government for free. However, parents must cover the cost of additional educational supplies, stationery, extracurricular activities and excursions and etc.
School lunch is provided as one of the educational programs at the public elementary schools and junior high schools. Parents pay a fixed monthly fee which covers the cost of ingredients used in school lunch.
For parents who have difficulty sending their child to school because of financial reasons, financial assistance is available for school items, school lunch, excursions and etc. Please consult the School Affairs Section for further information.
This classroom, held on Saturdays besides regular classroom, gives guidance for adjusting to daily life, custom and studying to returnees and children of foreign nationality, providing them a smooth transition into their school life in Japan. Please ask at the school for an application.
Japanese language teachers are sent to schools to provide assistance to returnees or children of foreign nationality who have considerable difficulties using Japanese. Please ask the teacher if your child/children need it.
