Public Elementary School and Junior High School Educational System

Procedure for Enrollment

If you would like to enroll your child in a public elementary school or junior high school, applications can be made at the School Affairs Section, Board of Education located on the fifth floor of the City Office.

Schools are designated according to your residence which is outlined in the ‘Rules on Kodaira City Public school district’.

Contacting the New School

Once the application is accepted, parents should contact the school and make an appointment to visit the school with their child/children. When visiting the school, we suggest you to discuss your child’s school life with the teaching staff.

Textbooks

Textbooks are supplied by the national government for free. However, parents must cover the cost of additional educational supplies, stationery, extracurricular activities and excursions and etc.

School Lunch Program

Municipal elementary and junior high schools provide school lunches as part of their educational activities. Currently, the school lunch fees are fully subsidized, eliminating any financial burden for parents. Additionally, some students bring homemade lunches daily due to food allergies or religious reasons as an alternative to school lunches. Their parents are eligible to receive financial support in the form of subsidies.

Financial Assistance

For parents who have difficulty sending their child to school because of financial reasons, financial assistance is available for school items, school lunch, excursions and etc. Please consult the School Affairs Section for further information.

Japanese Language Support

Japanese language teachers are sent to schools to provide assistance to returnees or children of foreign nationality who have considerable difficulties using Japanese. Please ask the teacher if your child/children need it.
